Create an Asset Association Link

An asset association link is also called a parent-child relationship.

This procedure requires that the child asset is identified and then linked to a selected parent asset.  It is not possible to first select a parent asset and then search for, and link, with an intended child asset.

The child asset must be configured as a child asset, which is to , and the parent asset must be configured as a parent asset.  This is indicated on the asset record as shown below.

In this instance, this asset is a PARENT (or Primary) asset.  This asset may have child assets with which it is associated.  However, it cannot be a child asset to any other asset.

PROCEDURE

To create an asset parent / child link or association, first locate the child asset record and then click on the icon (indicated below) to edit the asset information.

The following page will then be shown.

Clicking on the sub-menu button (three horizontal lines in the top, upper-left corner) will open a small sub-menu as shown.

To create the link with a parent asset, click on CREATE ASSET ASSOCIATION LINK which will open the following dialogue box.  Here, the user will enter the registration of the intended parent asset in the box with the text, 'SEARCH TERM.'

Select the link icon

on the right-hand side of the line with the parent asset details.

After clicking on this, a cautionary message will be shown, asking the user to confirm the intention of creating a parent / child association between these two assets.

If this has been done in error, click CANCEL.  If the intention is to create the link or association, click YES.

To finish, the user clicks on the 'X' in the upper right-and corner of the dialogue box.
